During his visit, Minister Lintilä also shared his insights about the growth of hydrogen business with the Hycamite team, lead by Hycamite COB Matti Malkamäki and CEO Laura Rahikka. Minister Lintilä and the Hycamite team also discussed about opportunities to speed up permitting processes that many companies consider too slow in the fast-growing and internationally competitive business environment.
Minister Lintilä visited yesterday the Hycamite test facility for hydrogen production in Kokkola, Finland. Here, Hycamite is conducting further research and testing on its unique techniques for producing hydrogen from natural gas without carbon dioxide emissions. Hycamite is also soon to begin the construction of an industrial pilot plant for hydrogen production.
The Finnish Government decided this summer to have a national hydrogen network established in Finland. In June, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy supported expanding the group-level mandate of the wholly state-owned Gasgrid Finland Oy to include hydrogen transmission infrastructure and the development of a related hydrogen market in Finland.
“The Government wants that, before the end of this parliamentary term, measures are taken to promote investments required for the transfer and distribution of hydrogen. The key guidelines for the hydrogen economy are included in the Climate and Energy Strategy,” said Minister Lintilä when the decision about the national hydrogen network was made in June.
“I am very pleased that the creation of a foundation for Finland’s hydrogen economy is now getting started in the right order and that a national transmission network for hydrogen is established,” Lintilä continued.
